4. light leaks
thrift-shopping in Tokyo, and the first day of my 21-day trip around Japan
I forgot to roll the film up before I opened the back so some light leaked onto the film
they turned out unexpectedly nice
Shot on Leica M6 with Kodak ColorPlus 200 film.

it’s always fascinating to see how people react differently when they notice a camera
Some people (above) walk their bikes directly towards the camera
Others frantically speed-walk away
Still others simply stand and stare.

the shop attendant Anri and I chatted for a while
she studied abroad in New Zealand and published a book of her beautiful film photography, which she’s holding in the photo below

new beginnings
the day before leaving tokyo, I captured the sunset from the apartment window while packing
goodbye tokyo

hello hakodate
light leak exposure #1:
edges are blurred and overexposed
an unintentional reverse vignette
light leak exposure #2:
the trees in the left half of the picture look more yellow than orange
a surprising golden gradient
Some film photographers intentionally introduce light leaks into their film to get fascinating aesthetics.
For now, however, I’d like to stick with setting proper exposures and, of course, remembering to rewind my film properly.
Next stop: Sapporo on Fujifilm.
